Julie Fahy (Maginot)

Julie (Maginot) Fahy attended Carl Sandburg High School from 1980-1982 where she was a
starting setter and outside hitter for the Girls Varsity Volleyball Team. In both her junior and
senior seasons, Julie helped lead the Eagles to back-to-back IHSA Championship tournaments,
placing 3rd and 2nd, respectively. A Junior Olympic and Junior National All-American, Julie was
also named to the Suburban Tribune All-Star, SICA West All-Conference and IHSA All-State
teams.
From 1981 to 1983, Julie was a distinguished member of the U.S. Olympic Festival Team, earning
a spot on the US Junior National Team in 1982 where she competed in the Pacific Rim
tournament in Hilo, Hawaii.
Julie went on to play Division I volleyball for four years at the University of the Pacific from
1982-1986. The Pacific Tigers advanced to the Final Four tournament in three of Julie’s four
seasons. Her team placed 4th and 3rd in 1983 and 1984, respectively, and won the school’s first
ever NCAA Championship with a stunning defeat against Stanford in 1985. Julie finished her
career at Pacific as the school's all-time career kills leader with 1,349 kills. By the end of her
senior season, she was also the career leader in total attacks and was first in single season digs
with 394 and second in career service aces with 145. Julie was a three time Academic and
Athletic All-American and recipient of the Libby Matson Outstanding Senior Female Athlete
award. In 1986, Julie graduated Magna Cum Laude from Pacific with a bachelor’s degree in
computer science.
After college, Julie played volleyball professionally from 1987-1989 for the San Jose Golddiggers
in Major League Volleyball. After her final season with the Golddiggers, she went on to become
an assistant volleyball coach at the University of San Francisco from 1989-1990.
Since her volleyball years, Julie went on to have a successful career in software engineering,
working at Ford Aerospace, Stanford University Medical Center, Roche Pharmaceuticals and
Loyola Health Systems. She and her husband Rich reside in Clarendon Hills, Illinois and have
enjoyed many years of cheering on the athletic pursuits of their two sons, Will and Nick.
