Marcia Faustin

Dr. Marcy Faustin was a three-sport athlete for the Eagles, participating in volleyball,
gymnastics, and track & field for all four years of her high school career. As a sophomore, she
became a three-sport varsity athlete. For her volleyball career, she transitioned positions from
setter to right side hitter and was part of the 2nd place State team. As a part of the gymnastics
team, she and the team had a successful career with multiple appearances at the State meets.
In track and field, she finished second in the high jump as a sophomore, with multiple top 10
finishes in the 200-meter dash and relays. Moreover, in 2001 she set the current the high jump
record, which had stood since 1978. While at Sandburg, she also excelled academically and
was an avid member of the Gold Team (participating in all AP courses), and graduated at the
top of her class.
She then enrolled at the Loyola University of Chicago on a Track and Field, and academic
scholarships. As a student athlete, she continued to be blessed with successes, including being
named a 4-time indoor and four-time outdoor high jump conference champion. She earned her
status as a repeat NCAA Regional qualifier for high jump, Loyola Female Athlete of the Year -
2007, Diversity Award for Student-Athlete of the Year - 2006, US Track and Field Coach’s

Association All-American All-Academic team 2006-07, and Horizon League Honor Roll and All-
Academic Team - 2004-2007. Like Sandburg, she holds the Loyola High jump record since

2006 and has the 8th fastest time in school history in the 200 meters. She not only found
success on the track but also excelled academically as a pre-medical student and an active
member of the pre-health society. She volunteered at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago,
conducted undergraduate research and dedicated time to various community service outreach
programs. In 2007, she graduated the Loyola University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts and
Sciences in Biology and a minor in Psychology.
After graduation, she attended a post-baccalaureate program, MEDPREP, at Southern Illinois
University from 2007-09. She matriculated into the University of Chicago Pritzker Medical
School, and received her medical doctorate. In medical school, she met her now husband.
Together they moved to California, where she completed her Family Medicine Residency and
served as Chief Resident at UC San Diego. Subsequently, she completed subspecialty training
in, Sports Medicine, also at UC San Diego.

Dr. Faustin now lives in Sacramento, working at the University of California, Davis, as a board-
certified Family & Sports Physician. She takes care of patients of all ages, is the Associate

Team Physician for UC Davis Division I Athletics, and is the co-head Team Physician for USA
Gymnastics Women’s National Team. She thoroughly enjoys the mentorship and teaching
opportunities with undergraduates, medical students, residents, and Sports Medicine fellows.
One of her most exciting accomplishments is being the head team physician for the USA
Gymnastics Women’s National Team at the most recent Tokyo Olympics.
This nomination to the Hall of Fame has been shocking, humbling, and such a blessing. Dr.
Faustin is thankful for the support from her family, friends, coaches, teachers, and all those who

believed in her, and allowed her to be the best version of herself. She is forever grateful for
those who advised her through the good times and challenging times, and those who continued
to root for her success, always with a smile and a laugh.
