Football
Year: 2022-23

Tom Toth attended Carl Sandburg High School from 1976-1980 playing football for the Eagles all four years. Tom played freshman wingback and defensive safety. After a growth spurt between freshman and sophomore year, the coaches moved him to lineman where he simultaneously played offensive and defensive line for the rest of his high school career and was a varsity two year starter. By the end of his senior year, Tom was named All Conference and All Chicagoland Area Honorable Mention, All Area Lineman and All State Honorable Mention.

Tom earned a full scholarship to Western Michigan University in 1980 where he continued his football career as an offensive lineman. After redshirting his first year in 1980, he then started the next four years (1981-1984). Tom suffered a broken arm the week before his first collegiate game, forcing him out for seven weeks. Tom came back for WMU’s homecoming game wearing a cast and broke it again six plays into the game. Tom had a rough start to his college football career with injuries but he went on and proved himself the following three years by earning First Team All Mid American Conference and All American Honorable Mention his senior year. Tom became the team's Co-Captain during his last year as a Bronco and was voted Offensive Player of the Year by his teammates.

Tom was drafted to the New England Patriots in the 4th round (102nd overall) in 1985. That same year the Patriots played the Bears in Super Bowl XX. Tom was injured during the season with a badly sprained ankle and was put on injured reserve. After being released by the Patriots in 1986, he was picked up by the Miami Dolphins as a free agent. Tom played in 13 games in his first year as a reserve offensive lineman. In 1987, there was only a twelve game season due to an NFL strike and Tom started all 12 of those games protecting Dan Marino. Tom was converted to guard from tackle in training camp which helped the Dolphins offensive line lead the NFL in fewest sacks (13) for a record six straight seasons. Tom played for the Miami Dolphins from 1986-1990 where he played in 51 games overall and started eighteen.

Tom married Gail in 1986. Gail currently works as a Paraprofessional in Special Services at Sandburg. Together they have 3 children. Matt (Daughter-in-law Becca with grandchildren Lilly and Henry), Megan (& Son-in-law Nick) and Christopher. All 3 three children played multiple sports at Sandburg. Matt was All State in basketball and Christopher was All Conference in football and is currently playing at Aurora University where he was named First Team All American in 2021. Tom presently owns his own gym named Fitness Edge where he is a Personal Trainer.
