Missy (Kies) Rodger

Missy Kies was an athlete for the Eagles from 1987-1991. She was named Female Athlete of the Year her senior year. She lettered one-year in volleyball and was a four-year letter winner for the girls basketball team. She was a highly rated player in the SICA North, averaging 15 points and 10 assists per game and made 71 (3)-point baskets in her senior year. She was The Star’s Player of the Week for two consecutive weeks. She was chosen MVP of the Romeoville and Hillcrest tournaments and helped lead the Eagles to a 28 game winning streak that sent the Eagles to their first time No. 1 ranking. She ended her basketball career playing in the Chicago Sun-Times All-Star game and earned All-Conference, All-Area and All-State Honors.

Missy was also a four-year varsity shortstop, starting for the Eagles girls softball team. She earned All-Conference honors and was named SICA North All-Star three years in a row. She also had multiple All-Area and All-State nominations. Missy finished her career with a .400 batting average, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored, and only made three errors her senior season.

Missy earned a four-year scholarship to play softball for the UIC Flames. She helped lead the team to their first ever bid to the Women’s College World Series in 1994. At that time, UIC was the first team east of the Mississippi River to make it to the WCWS and were ranked in the top eight in the nation. She was asked to play for the USA Select Colligate Team that competed in one of the highest ranked international competitions in Haarlem, Holland playing against national teams from around the world. Missy was a first-team All Mid-Continent athlete in 1994 and 1995, named to the Mid-Continent All Tournament Teams the same years, and an All-American candidate in 1995 leaving her mark at UIC all over the record books. In 2001, Missy and her 1994 UIC Softball team were inducted into UIC Hall of Fame.

Missy received her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and became a self-employed personal trainer. Being in fitness for the last twenty plus years helped as she took 3rd place in her first fitness competition and placed in the top 10 out of 96. She now resides in Venice, Fl. with her husband Ben of 23 years and their three grown children: Gunner, Drake and daughter Hunter.
