Anne (Mullins) Ricchio

Anne Mullins was a three-sport athlete at Carl Sandburg High School, participating in volleyball, basketball, and track from 1993-1997. As a freshman, Anne won first place at the sophomore conference track meet in the 300-meter hurdles. She was a three-year member of the varsity basketball team and was captain her senior year. During her junior year, Anne set the IHSA state record for most three-point field goals made in a single season (108).

Throughout her basketball career, Anne had several games in which she made seven or more three-pointers, including seven against Andrew and Argo, eight against Immaculate Heart of Mary, and nine in the second half of a game against Lockport in which Anne contributing to 33 of the team’s 77 points. She averaged 13.4 points per game and ranked second among the Eagles with 45 steals, leading the Eagles to conference and regional championships every year. Her three-point field goal percentage was an impressive 42%. Anne played AAU traveling basketball with the Blue Island Lady Rockets in Robbins, Illinois. She competed at the Blue Star Invitational Camp and competed yearly with her Sandburg team at Doug Bruno’s summer camps.

Anne was the recipient of many basketball honors including being named to several All-Tournament teams, the SICA All-Conference team, and was an All-Area selection for both the Daily Southtown and Star Newspapers. In 1996, Anne was named Player of the Year in the Regional Newspaper. Anne was a Wendy’s National High School Heisman Award nominee and was one of the first 29 recipients of the Abby Foundation’s Abby Athlete award recognizing champions in women's sports. Off the court, Anne was a member of the National Honors Society and Mu Alpha Theta and graduated in the top 7% of her class.

Anne recently completed her Master’s Degree in Nursing Management and Leadership and is currently the head nurse for Niles Township High School District 219 in Skokie, Illinois. In 2015, she was recognized by the American Nurses Association as one of Illinois’ 40 Under 40 Emerging Nurse Leaders. She serves on committees for the Illinois Association of School Nurses and the Illinois Department of Public Health. She currently lives in Harwood Heights with her husband Mike and three children: Eva, Hayes, and Carter.
